The Korn Ferry Tour is the official developmental tour of the PGA Tour — the highest-level proving ground in American professional golf outside of the PGA Tour itself. At the end of each season, the top 30 players on the Korn Ferry Tour points list earn full PGA Tour cards for the following season. Additional cards are available through the combined Korn Ferry/PGA Tour points list, which rewards consistent performance across both circuits.
Earning Korn Ferry status in the first place requires either graduating from Q-School — a grueling multi-stage qualifying tournament held at the end of each season — or accumulating enough performance results to receive conditional status. Even conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour represents an extraordinary achievement.
The financial reality of Korn Ferry competition
Korn Ferry Tour players face significant expenses that most fans don't consider. Events are spread across the United States, Canada, and Latin America, requiring constant travel. Full-status players may play 20–30 events per season, each requiring flights, hotels, and ground transportation.
For players outside the top 50 on the points list, annual prize money earnings often fall between $30,000 and $100,000 — while total annual expenses to compete at that level can reach $80,000 to $150,000. The financial pressure is real and constant, and it contributes to why some talented players are forced to step away before their best golf is ahead of them.
Conditional status players have it even harder. They depend on late withdrawals and field openings to access events, making income planning almost impossible.
